Which Earthmoving Machines Can I Operate with a Digger License?
With a digger license (also known as an earthmoving machine license), you are allowed to operate certain earthmoving machines – but not just any. The digger license is not a general machine operating license, but rather proof that you are skilled in the operation and safety of specific machines. This is important to keep in mind before you get behind the wheel.
What the Digger License Covers
The digger license from Baggerschule1 prepares you for the safe handling of earthmoving machines. This primarily includes:
- Diggers – from mini diggers to larger hydraulic excavators
- Wheel Loaders – for loading and moving bulk materials
- Bulldozers – for earthworks on construction sites
- Hydraulic Excavators – the standard equipment on any construction site
The exact coverage depends on your training and the practical day. During the practical session, you will determine together with your instructor which machines you will practice on and prepare for.
What Is Not Included in the Digger License
Machines that go beyond the typical scope of earthmoving machines are not allowed. These include:
- Construction Cranes and Tower Cranes
- Forklifts (a separate forklift license is required for this)
- Specialized machines such as drilling rigs or specialized deep foundation machines
There are specific regulations and training requirements for these machines. The digger license is not sufficient here.
Practical Day and Examination
After the online theory, the practical day with examination follows. On this day, you will operate the machines included in your course. The exam demonstrates that you can safely operate the machine, calculate loads, and comply with DGUV regulations. The certificate will be issued after passing the exam.
